Following Knight's Dream
How It Went From Paper To Stage

Synopsis
Knight’s Dream is a new musical inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, reimagining the classic tale in a modern setting. Oscar Pendragon, an ambitious entrepreneur, has opened his new bar—Knight’s Dream—with his exasperated fiancée, Tulisa, whose patience is thin. Things take a turn when four young customers get caught up in the illicit ‘Love Drug.’

The complicated love triangle takes an unexpected twist, flipping the characters’ relationships upside down. All the while, the mischievous bartender, a modern day Puck, orchestrates the chaos from the sidelines with a knowing smirk. With an original score blending pop, jazz, and inspiration from Fred Ebb and modern hits like Heathers, Knight’s Dream is a dark comedy that stays true to Shakespeare’s themes of love, betrayal, and the absurd, peppering in references to the original work. It’s a new take on a beloved classic that comments on the modern issue of drink spiking.

Message from the writer
'Knight's Dream' has been my main project for the past four years. There have been countless rewrites, multiple versions and ever-changing songs to bring it to something I am excited about today. It started as a retelling of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' then became something totally different as the characters developed – through my own writing and by the multiple casts we've had over the years.
I really wanted to hone in on the spiking element as it's something I have been highly aware of as a woman in her teens and early twenties. I've really tried to balance out the comedy aspects of the show with the seriousness of this overlooked epidemic. I've also written songs inspired by my multiple musical theatre phases – 'Heathers', 'Chicago', 'Cabaret' and 'Six' jump to mind, creating a pop/jazz blend. I really hope you like my little show which I've spent the last four years working on and any support is always appreciated!
